You’ve obviously heard of the saying, ”Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”? Life has a way of springing surprises especially in Nigeria where the economy is still developing.
Many Nigerian celebrities have taken the proactive way out by sourcing multiple incomes, while some genuinely have interest in other sectors, others are simply motivated by the profit incentive though.
However, we have gotten some of the successful celebrities in our list of celebrities who have side businesses aside their major career.
1. D’ Banj
The Kokomaster is not just a musician, but a food entrepreneur. The DB records boss launched his garri, a packaged form of the popular Nigerian cassava grains. His product was endorsed by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and has been featured in several music videos by musicians like Oritse Femi.
2. Geneveive Nnaji
The Nollywood star has her own clothing line- St Genevieve. The venture appears to be doing well, as it is available on several online stores and celebrities like popular OAP Toke Makinwa have been seen rocking fashion pieces from the clothing line.
3. 2Face Idibia
2Baba, as he is fondly called by fans, has his hands in other pies apart from music. The 39 year old owns the Rumour night club in Lagos, with 2 outlets, one in Festac and the other in Ikeja GRA.
4. Agbani Darego
The 31 year old ex-beauty queen has moved on to greater heights after winning the Miss World Beauty pageant in 2001. She has been a model for several local and international fashion brands, and in 2014 she launched her own denim range called AD by Agbani Darego, offering jeans, dresses sunglasses and bags.
5. A.Y Makun
A.Y is one of the most enterprising celebrities in Nigeria, from the A.Y show to A.Y’s Crib and now he goes out of his usual line of business to set up the first non-smoking nightclub in Lagos, MVP. A.Y’s MVP is located in Lekki and was opened in 2014.
6. Ini Edo
The Nollywood star is not stopping on the screen, she has gone on to launch a bakery producing pastries and bread, with the name ‘Ini Delicious’. Even though, her distribution still needs some more work, she has taken the bold step to begin her own business.
7. Mercy Aigbe Gentry
This smoking hot Yoruba actress owns a boutique in Omole Phase 1, Lagos. Her boutique’s name is Mag Divas and it was launched late last year, with many of her colleagues in attendance.
8. Seyi Law
Popular comedian Seyi Law owns a multi-million Naira lounge in Ikorodu called Xcess Lounge and Comedy Bar. From what we hear, it’s doing well.
9. Basket Mouth
When the ace comedian is not on stage cracking ribs, he’s at his lounge having a good time and chilling with friends. Basketmouth has been the owner of EmBARssy Lounge for years. His lounge is located in Akoka, Yaba, close to the University Of Lagos.
